Breeding Koi: Getting Into Koi Online Communities
Nowadays, Koi pond breeding and Koi breeding is rapidly becoming a very famous hobby among the fish enthusiasts. The demands of this hobby, however, makes it really essential in communicating with others who breed and keep Koi as their pets too. The network of enthusiasts will be very helpful if ever you run into problems and then your vet, dealer or local pet store is unavailable at the time being. This network will provide you complete fun and entertainment. This is where you can find people who are equally interested as you are in discussing your hobby!
A lot of Koi online communities are accessible 24/7, and they are also free to use too. Just go through the sign up process, then you can start reading, posting, and responding to posts done by the other members. This is how you can share helpful information to others, wherein you can benefit from it too. Joining an online community is quite easy to do, and it's rewarding as well. Here are the few steps that you have to follow:
1) Find an existing community. Just be careful not to join those old, outdated and unvisited communities (as the most of them are). You can look for the stats of the message boards on their main page. These stats include the total number of members that are signed in currently in the message board, the number of posts done for a specific day and month, and the total number of users (members).
The bigger the number, the better. If you see great number of members online, this will be a great opportunity for you to post and respond to messages, as well as talk to the other members right then and there.
2) After finding the suitable community, you must then become a member of it. Others won't require any sign ups, which is good if you are not planning to do online posting more than a couple of times. But if you plan to visit the board more often, it's advisable to have your own "identity" by having a member name and password. So once this is done, you can then make your own member profile. Just add and share any information that you would like people to know.
3) Now that you are already a member of the online community, you can now look at many online topic boards. These boards will break different topics into divisions, allowing the users to discuss and find what interests them. Topics will cover Koi behavior and the various health issues, Koi keeping for newbies and advanced Koi keeping, etc.
4) After finding the board you like, you can then read and also post your messages. Make it a point that you only post messages on the topic listed so as not to confuse others and prevent the removal of your online posts. Follow the necessary etiquette when posting your messages: such as never argue with others, don't post in all caps, make sure to spell out each word and don't use catharsis (or abreactions), etc.
5) Lastly, you can always help other people. Newbies to the hobby (and Koi enthusiasts as well) will really find your opinion very helpful to them. Giving them your input about feeding, breeding, taking care of the Koi, etc, will help them make their own ponds a better place for their fish.
