Are You Ready To Become A Veterinary Technician?

Mankind has at least always and hopefully will always care for all the animals on the planet. From the pooch on the chair to the penguin that may have suffered an oil spill in the ocean. The need for the veterinary technician continues, as every vet requires one.

The studies are not as intense for the veterinary technician as for a vet, but there are still some major things that need to be learned. Before even wanting to study for a vet or veterinary technician, you will have to have the passion and compassion for animals. Even though being a veterinary technician, or vet assistant as it is also called, you would need to understand that it is not about just pampering animals, it’s about caring enough, healing and treating them too.

Certification Is Required

There should be a veterinary technician school in your region, if not you would have to probably go to your closest university or college campus for tutoring. You will need to be qualified and certified to do the work expected from you.
There is no easy way for becoming a veterinary technician besides that you study hard, and also the courses are not cheap too.

However the veterinary technician job is not the most glamorous, but it is filled with compassion and hard work. Yes there can be times of fun and games with the animals, and just observing their natural behavior can be hilarious at times, however strange the animal too. Just as same the humans have their ways, animals also have them too.

The duties of a veterinary technician are not as simple as one would assume. There are medical procedures that have to be seen to, specimens that need to be collected for testing, physical examinations, immunization, dental procedures, helping with giving birth and euthanasia’s, and of course spaying of bitches and neutering of males.

Routine Check-Ups

Being a vet or veterinary techniciandoes not mean you have no compassion for humans as you try on a daily basis to help humans help their own pets when in distress or pain, or just because it is time for that routine injection or check-up. Only the thing that your pet ever asked was a bit of food for all their unconditional love and proper attention. Is it that easy to neglect or abandon your pet, and if you could do that to a pet then you could easily do it to your own child too? Never get a pet for someone who is either irresponsible or does not love animals at all, it’s actually the cruelest thing you could possibly do.

The best washing machines for your horse rugs

Good hygiene is paramount for the wellbeing of horses that live in equestrian schools, and the correct cleaning of the material that comes into contact with the horses is ultra important.Your article has 10 sentences left that can be rewritten. In fact a well laundered horse blanket is a sure sign of a well kept horse! This is particularly important when it comes to competitions where a lot of importance is placed on visual appearance. Washing horse rugs in a simple domestic machine will not be good enough. This is a specialist task that requires the right technology and wash programmes. A laundry within the riding school has many advantages. Laundry can be done as part of the daily routine and equine smells will remain in the stable.
A great large capacity washing machine on the market which fits the bill is Miele. This offers washer-extractors with capacities of 7.5 to 32 kg with special wash programmes for horse blankets and accessories which are really ideal for equestrian schools. The machine has four special programmes for washing and also proofing horse blankets: a 30°C and a 60°C programme, a programme for delicates and one with a proofing phase included for waterproofing. These machines can also handle halters, girths, bandages, saddlecloths and similar textile items which are not always accepted by commercial laundries.
Laundry is usually completed and ready for use in just less than an hour. These machines have high spin speeds which greatly reduce drying times.
A great machine for equestrian schools would be the Miele PW 6101 washing machine with a PT 7251 tumble dryer. These can cope with 1 winter blanket and 2 summer blankets or possibly up to 7 saddle cloths per load.
Long term an investment in one of these machines is bound to pay dividends!

The care and maintenance of your horse rugs

Anyone who has made the decision to buy a horse will soon find out that there is so much to learn. One thing I had not really considered was the maintenance needed for the equipment etc and below are some useful points I have discovered which you may like to share.
The purchase of a good quality horse blanket is important and the aftercare, because laundering equestrian blankets needs an industrial washing machine.
Your horse must be checked on a daily basis to make sure that their blanket is not pulling or rubbing. If you notice any patches of broken hairs this is a sure sign.
Folding your blankets, fleeces and rugs, in the correct way makes them so much easier and safer to put back on your horse or pony. The horse is less likely to spook if you set a folded bundle on his back, slowly unfolding it than he would if you just dumped the blanket over his back and dragged it into position.
Fold your blanket whilst removing it fromthe horse or after cleaning in preparation for the next use. A folded blanket is much easier to carry around.
Start with the blanket, unbuckled on the horse, or if easier take it off and lay it on the ground. Then lay the blanket so the outerside is facing upwards. Spread the straps out straight so that they can be folded into the blanket as you go.
Fold the back third of the blanket up towards the middle, then tuck the leg straps in folding in the tail flap.
Then fold the front third piece of the blanket back towards the folded edge. Straighten out the shoulder gussets.
Then fold the right side up so the lower edge meets the centre seam.
Then fold the left side so the lower edge meets the centre, folding up the belly straps.
Then fold the two halves together. The bundle can then be folded together once again and packed in a bag for storage. Then just reverse the order of the folds enabling you to put the blanket back on the horse easily.
If your horse is kept outside a lot it will probably be better to have two outdoor rugs. An extra blanket will allow you to swop one blanket to allow the other one to dry.
